Create Equal College Opportunities For Minority & Low Income Students

Create Equal College Opportunities For Minority & Low Income Students
The Issue
The issue of low income & minority students not being given the opportunity of equal education stems from the early 21st century, where it is found that low income students struggle to have basic necessities like food and housing, income, etc; These factors often add more stress onto being a student, which can negatively impact the student's ability to succeed in school. Not having the money and proper support can affect a college student in so many different ways, it causes them to have to juggle between full time jobs and class schedules in order to make ends meet. Our research shows that juggling between work and education can greatly lower one's performance within either academics or the place of work. Most minority students end up feeling the need to drop out and live off of whatever money they can make with just a high school diploma because it's too much pressure to handle. We've found that in most cases this is a trauma response from the majority of the low income student population having to grow up living in poverty, they often have fewer resources at home to complete homework, study, or engage in activities that help equip them for success during the school day. Our mission is to help low income & minority students get the resources that they need to properly succeed in college without the burden of debt, depression, etc.
Our mission is to find a way to create equal college funding opportunities for low income and minority students. We would like to create a safe space on campuses for students to go and have free resources such as therapists, food/snacks, job & housing opportunities, tutors etc.
