The Issue

For years, I have watched my family work tirelessly, contributing endlessly to the diverse fabric of this nation, yet living in uncertainty without a clear path to citizenship. Despite their unwavering dedication and effort to abide by the system through various attempts throughout the years, their dreams of becoming U.S. citizens remain unfulfilled. Their situation is not unique—there are millions like them who find themselves trapped in a system that offers no viable or affordable route to legality.

Currently, it is estimated that more than 10.5 million undocumented immigrants live in the United States. These individuals contribute approximately $11.7 billion in state and local taxes annually, according to the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy. Furthermore, they represent a crucial component of the workforce, particularly in sectors like agriculture, construction, and hospitality, where their absence would leave a significant void.

Yet, despite their contribution to the economy and society, these individuals are continually marginalized and left vulnerable without legal status. The path to becoming a U.S. citizen is convoluted, expensive, and often unattainable. It is imperative that we recognize the humane and economic necessity of reforming our immigration system to include a clear and affordable path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants.

Creating a clear path to citizenship is not just a matter of economic interest, but also a commitment to the values of equality and freedom upon which this nation was founded. A reformed system would allow millions of families to step out of the shadows and fully participate in building a stronger, unified America. This proposed pathway must include reasonable application processes, affordable fees, and support for integration into our communities.

I call upon the United States Congress to take immediate action in establishing this clear, compassionate, and affordable pathway to citizenship. Let us stand together to demand a better future for those who have continually supported our nation. Sign and share this petition to bring about change for millions who call America their home.
