The Issue

On December 5th, 2025, our family suffered a tragedy that no one should ever have to experience. My beloved 11-year-old niece, Amya Frazier, was senselessly and tragically shot in the head by her 14-year-old cousin. The gun that claimed her life belonged to their uncle, who failed to secure it properly, allowing his son to gain access. This preventable oversight led to Amya losing her life, and this heartbreak is something no family should endure.

In the United States, over 3,000 children are injured or killed every year due to unintentional shootings. Too often, these incidents occur because children can easily access unsecured firearms in their homes. Studies have shown that when firearms are safely secured, the risk of accidental shootings decreases by up to 85%. Despite these alarming statistics, only a handful of states have implemented child access prevention laws that hold gun owners accountable when minors gain access to unsecured firearms.

Therefore, we are calling for the creation of Amya’s Law, a comprehensive child access prevention law. This law would mandate the safe storage of firearms in households, requiring gun owners to lock their firearms in secure safes or apply safety locks to prevent unauthorized access by minors. It would also impose penalties on gun owners who fail to comply, promoting responsibility and accountability.

Amya's Law would not only honor the memory of a vibrant young girl whose life was cut short but would also serve as a beacon of hope in preventing other families from experiencing similar devastation. By implementing robust, enforceable legislation, we can ensure that children are safeguarded from preventable harm and uphold a standard of responsibility in homes across the nation.

We need your support to bring about change and prevent future tragedies like the loss of Amya. Let us come together and urge our legislators to prioritize the safety of our children by enacting Amya’s Law. Sign this petition and help us protect the lives of countless children by ensuring firearms are securely stored away from young hands.
