Create a Utah license plate for Childhood Cancer Awareness
The Issue
In 2017, my life was forever changed when my son was diagnosed with stage IV neuroblastoma. It was a journey filled with despair and uncertainty, but also one that brought us immense support, love, and care from countless individuals and organizations. These extraordinary nonprofit organizations bridged the gaps that traditional healthcare and financial support couldn't fill. Yet, even with such unwavering support from the community, gaps remain.
Many families battling childhood cancer face numerous challenges beyond medical treatment: from travel expenses for specialized treatment centers to temporary housing and mental health support. These are pressing needs that many families are unable to meet on their own. As I navigated this path, I realized how critical it was to have these extra layers of support—and that's why Bee the Hope aims to fill these gaps and provide the crucial assistance that families in Utah need during such trying times.
To further bolster our efforts and spread awareness, we propose the creation of a special license plate in Utah dedicated to Childhood Cancer awareness. This license plate will not only represent the plight and strength of these young warriors but also serve as a constant reminder of the critical battle against childhood cancer. Importantly, the proceeds from these plates will directly support families through initiatives championed by Bee the Hope.
The need for such a program is evident and urgent. According to the American Childhood Cancer Organization, about 1 in 285 children in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer before their 20th birthday. Utah families are not exempt from these statistics, and our community must rally to provide meaningful support.
With your help, we can convince Utah legislature that approving this license plate is a heartfelt step towards easing financial and emotional burdens for many families. By commemorating these courageous children and supporting families like mine through tangible financial support, we can show that Utah stands behind its children in their darkest hours.
