I’m proud to share that my local MP has now taken direct steps to raise this issue with both the Department for Health and Social Care and the NHS Trust.
Two formal emails have been sent — one to the Minister for Health and another to the NHS Trust — outlining the urgent need for better trauma and mental health support for victims of dog attacks, especially young children.
These letters specifically reference my son’s experience and the challenges we faced accessing help, as well as the incredible public support behind this petition, now with over 37,000 signatures.
The MP has asked for meetings and detailed information on current support pathways, eligibility criteria, and how children under five are assessed after traumatic incidents. They’ve also called for consideration of a national support pathway for dog attack victims.
This is a major step forward , proof that our voices are being heard at government level. I’ll keep pushing until we see real change in how families are supported after such devastating events.
