The Issue

Barbie was created by Ruth Handler, who was a stenographer, yet, there is no Steno Barbie?!

There is a nationwide shortage of stenographers and we are doing the groundwork of spreading steno and promoting stenography in the following ways: Social media, career fairs, podcasts, radio stations, news outlets, and word of mouth.

If there was a Barbie dressed in professional attire with a steno machine, that would definitely assist the steno community in spreading the word about a lucrative career in stenography to young people everywhere.

The Steno Barbie would be the Guardian of the Record who works closely with judges and lawyers protecting the record in courtrooms and depositions all over the world; a Broadcast Captioner providing live realtime captions for the hard-of-hearing and deaf community ensuring people have accurate information during natural disasters; a CART(Communication Access Realtime Translation) Provider assisting hard-of-hearing students ensuring they have equal access in the classroom.

Steno Barbie is a high-earning independent professional making a lucrative salary and has big responsibilities. Court reporting remains one of the highest-earning careers without a four-year degree or higher. Steno Barbie can take her skills across the globe making her a world traveler and influencer.

Steno Barbie is equipped with a steno machine, a tripod, a laptop, exhibit stickers, and a steno bag to carry his/her equipment. Steno Barbie can also come with a business card explaining steno and how steno works promoting the National Court Reporters Association's free A-to-Z Program where you can enroll in a six-week course and learn steno to see if it's the right career for you.

Mattel, please consider creating a Steno Barbie to spread steno and assist us in putting an end to the national stenographer shortage.

Kindly,

Denee the StenoFluencer, Rachel the Scoping Coach, and the Steno Community
