Create a separate area for cancer patients at Glan Clwyd Hospital
The issue
Delia Lodge and her friends an family are actively campaigning for safe spaces for cancer patients ! Having friends and family members suffering from cancer, I witness first-hand the challenges they face, especially when it comes to medical facilities and waiting areas at Glan Clwyd Hospital. The compromised immune systems of cancer patients make them particularly susceptible to infections, which is why it is crucial that the Accident & Emergency (A&E) department improves its facilities to include safe and separate waiting areas for these vulnerable individuals.
Cancer patients already bear a heavy burden due to their health condition. The least we can do is ensure they have a secure and protected environment when they are seeking medical care. At Glan Clwyd Hospital, the lack of distinct spaces for cancer patients in waiting areas exposes them to a higher risk of infections, potentially worsening their health and complicating their recovery.
According to Cancer Research UK, individuals undergoing cancer treatment often have weakened immune systems, significantly increasing their risk of catching infections. This is not just uncomfortable; it can be life-threatening. Separate spaces designed specifically for patients with compromised immune systems could dramatically reduce these risks, helping ensure their comfort and safety during an already difficult time.
The hospital could introduce a designated area within the A&E department that caters specifically to cancer patients, equipped with enhanced hygiene protocols and comfortable seating. This adjustment is not just about comfort, it is about providing a safer environment that acknowledges the unique needs of cancer patients, and signifies respect for their dignity and health.
I implore the hospital administration and local healthcare authorities to recognize this pressing need and act swiftly. Cancer patients deserve to wait for treatment in an area that prevents the risk of further health issues. Let us extend compassion and ensure their wellbeing by creating safe, separate waiting spaces.
Join me in urging Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board to take immediate action. Your signature can make a difference, showing support for those whose voices often go unheard in the healthcare system. Please sign this petition to help create a safer waiting environment for cancer patients at Glan Clwyd Hospital.
