Create a safe dirtbike area in Draper, UT

The Issue

For my brother and his friends, dirt-biking is their whole world. It is one of the few activities that draws them outside, away from screens, and brings them joy in a shared passion. They are not out to cause disruption, they simply want a safe space where they can practise, connect, and enjoy riding responsibly.

Currently, the lack of a designated track for electric dirt-bikes like Sur‑Ron and Talaria in Draper, UT, forces riders onto streets and public spaces, creating safety concerns for riders and community residents alike. This situation endangers the riders (who often lack an appropriate environment to practise their skills) but also the community, where riding in non-designated zones can lead to accidental harm or conflicts.

Studies of off-highway vehicle (OHV) recreation show that formalised, designated areas help manage impacts, enhance safety and reduce conflict. For example, a U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) study found that improved maps, signage and designated trails significantly assist agencies in managing increased OHV use. Roadracing World Furthermore the American Motorcyclist Association reports that OHV recreation in the U.S. supports more than $68 billion in economic activity annually. American Motorcyclist Trails and multi-use recreational infrastructure also show quantifiable benefits for neighbourhoods including increased physical activity, stronger social connection and generally positive perceptions by adjacent property owners. By establishing a designated dirt-bike track in Draper, UT, we would address the current safety concerns by providing a legal, controlled environment for all riders while also benefiting the wider community. Such a track would:

  • Give riders of all ages a legitimate venue to pursue their interest legally and responsibly
  • Reduce the temptation to ride in streets or inappropriate spaces, thereby decreasing risk to riders and the public
  • Provide a social hub for young enthusiasts, promoting outdoor activity, skill development and peer connection
  • Increase local recreational amenity value, which can enhance neighbourhood quality and potentially property values
  • Enable community oversight, signage, rules and maintenance, thereby increasing safety and reducing conflict
  • Your support can turn this vision into reality. By signing this petition you help create a safer community and give riders the legal space they deserve.                                                                                                                                                                                                     Join us in advocating for a solution that benefits everyone.
