Create a National Bank Holiday on May 8th to honor Sir David Attenborough

 

Sir David Attenborough is a global icon whose work has defined nature broadcasting for over 70 years. He has educated, inspired, and warned generations about the beauty and fragility of our planet. As a national treasure who has dedicated his life to environmental advocacy and public service, we believe his legacy deserves a permanent place in the British calendar.

 

We call on the Government to establish a new annual National Bank Holiday on May 8th, to be known as "Sir David Attenborough Day."

 

Why this matters

This holiday would serve two vital purposes:

 

1. A Tribute to a Legend: To honor the extraordinary life and career of Sir David Attenborough on his birthday.

2. A Day for Nature: To create an annual day of action where the public is encouraged to engage with local conservation, participate in community "green" projects, and reconnect with the British countryside.

 

Sir David has given the world a voice for nature. By creating this Bank Holiday, the United Kingdom can lead the way in celebrating environmental stewardship and honoring a man who has done more than any other to bring the wonders of the natural world into our homes.
