The Issue

My name is Olivia, and I’m turning 13 soon. I love skateboarding, but nearby skateparks are either too far away, closed, or made of metal and too hot to use in the summer. Clermont, Florida is growing rapidly, but it lacks a modern space for skateboarding and other recreational activities. I believe that Clermont should have a new public park with a skatepark and multi-use areas for everyone to enjoy. Such a park would give kids, teens, and families a safe place to stay active and have fun together.

A new park in Clermont would not only provide a dedicated space for skateboarding, but also encourage residents of all ages to engage in healthy lifestyles and connect with others. Skateboarding is an excellent way to build skills, stay fit, and meet new friends, and having a local park would support these opportunities for personal and social development among Clermont's youth.

Currently, many families have to travel far distances to find suitable recreational spaces. By building a new park in our hometown, we can reduce the need for travel, which saves time and money and contributes positively to the local economy. Moreover, a public park acts as a community hub where people can participate in a variety of activities, from athletics to social gatherings, promoting a sense of belonging and unity among residents.

Moreover, studies have shown that community parks not only enhance the quality of life but also increase property values and attract new residents which strengthens ties within the neighborhood. Clermont deserves a park that reflects its energy and growth, showcasing its commitment to providing a vibrant and inclusive environment for everyone.

Creating this park is not just about skateboarding—it's about building a better community for today and for future generations. Let us come together to make this vision a reality. Please sign this petition to support the creation of a modern public park in Clermont, Florida, and contribute to shaping a healthier and more connected community.

Please let our young residents know that I hear them and I support the idea of a skate park in Clermont and I hope that one day we can find the right opportunity and location to make it happen. I believe we should listen to their voices and I will continue to look for opportunities to provide recreational spaces that meet the interests of the next generation. Thank you. Thank you for taking time to create, read, and sign this petition. I welcome hearing from members of our community and was especially heartened to see this petition was initiated by an active young person. I am thrilled to see their involvement. I support the idea of the creation of a skate park, or the inclusion of it within a larger park. Anything we can do to help provide an environment for healthy, active, and positive involvement within Clermont is a worthy investment, especially our parks and recreation. I strongly encourage you to continue advocating for this through the Parks and Recreation Department and City Manager's Office – to see if you can convince leadership to include this in future budget requests. It might be too late to include it for the upcoming budget but it's never too early to start planning for FY 2028. I also encourage you to get involved with the city's ongoing master plan/comprehensive plan process – to get this included in the parks plan, specifically. I, too, will continue to advocate for robust and diverse parks and recreation programming. Thank you for commitment to the future of Clermont. We need our residents' involvement, especially the younger generations. Stay involved, please! Sincerely, Bryan L. Hello! I think this is a wonderful and want to let the petitioners know that we have already brought to completion a parks assessment performed by the American Bicycle Association utilizing the National Recreation and Parks Association standards. I have on the agenda for next Tuesday evening a request that Council consider moving forward with activation of the NRPA recommendations. An exciting relationship that we have developed through this process has been with USA BMX, which sounds like a very good opportunity to connect with people who can help identify, design, and build an amazing park for the youth participating in the survey provided. I encourage the participants in the survey to join our Youth Council and to make this item a priority; this would be a great way for the youth to have a voice in this process. Applications are open for the Youth Council on our website. Thank you!
