Create a Dedicated Hub/Cafe to offer support to SEN Parents and Children in Bow
The Issue
To: The London Borough of Tower Hamlets (Strategic Asset Management & Executive Cabinet)
Many parents and carers of children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), as well as individuals living with disabilities in Tower Hamlets, feel deeply isolated. Navigating the complexities of additional needs can be an incredibly lonely journey.
We are petitioning Tower Hamlets Council to support the creation of a dedicated Community Interest Café and Support Hub at the long-term vacant council asset at 59 Bow Road (opposite Bow Church Station).
What we are asking for:
We ask that Tower Hamlets Council works collaboratively with community organisers to allocate this empty, boarded-up space for a social enterprise layout. This hub will provide:
A safe, welcoming environment for SEN parents and carers to build peer-support networks and combat mental health isolation.
An accessible space to host disability education workshops, early intervention advice clinics, and community cohesion events.
Supported training and inclusion opportunities for local people with learning difficulties
We will use the café as an educational space for the wider public, using specialist communication tools (such as PECS and Makaton) throughout the shop so everyone can learn how our SEN children connect and communicate.
Please sign this petition to show the council that our community desperately needs and supports this space.
⚠️ IMPORTANT TOWER HAMLETS COUNCIL REQUIREMENT: Please ensure you provide your full name and local postcode (or state if you work/study in the borough) when signing, otherwise the council cannot officially count your support!
