Create a bike path between ILP and Library

Create a bike path between ILP and Library
The Issue
Currently, UCSB (University of California, Santa Barbara) cannot promise our safety, we the students, staff, visitors, and future gauchos. There is chaos in the pavilion between the ILP (Interactive Learning Pavilion) and Davidson Library as bikers are constantly weaving in between the students walking to and from the ILP. Our vision is to reduce the amount of bike accidents and increase student and staff safety by creating a new bike path between the library and ILP. Currently, many bikers take a shortcut instead of going around the psychology building, causing unsafe interactions between bikers and pedestrians. With no designated bike path, bikes come from all directions, especially between class periods, creating hazardous conditions. To address this, we need to create a safer, more accessible campus environment and establish a new and more direct bike path. This project aims to reduce bike accidents and increase campus safety. In the past, bike racks near the music hall allowed students to park and walk to their destinations, but their removal led to more students biking through crowded areas. By creating a direct, safe route for bikers, we can reduce accidents and ensure a safer campus environment for everyone—students, staff, visitors, and future students.
