The 24 by '24 Campaign, for the development of 24 Dedicated Pickleball Courts in Seattle!

The Issue

Seattle is the Worst in the West, in providing dedicated pickleball courts to its citizens, with just 3 dedicated pickleball courts for the entire city, while cities of a similar size average 27 dedicated pickleball courts*

We call upon  the City of Seattle to create 24 dedicated pickleball courts in 2024,  to reach the same average number per capita as other Western cities.

Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the US, with forty eight million players. Most cities have jumped at the chance to meet this opportunity to nurture a sport that is both accessible and affordable to young and old, is highly social, and promotes health.   Not Seattle.  The largest city in the only state that has declared pickleball as its State Sport provides far fewer dedicated pickleball courts than nearly all other mid and major cities throughout the west!

There are many ways for the Seattle Parks Dept. to accomplish this goal, some at very little cost.

We call on A.P. Diaz, the Superintendent of the Seattle Parks Dept., to and Mayor Bruce Harrell, to commit to creating 24 dedicated pickleball courts, spread equitably throughout Seattle,  in 2024!

*Based on data compiled by Pickleheads.com, the leading authority on pickleball court availability, and a company that has surveyed more than 5,000 US cities. The average number of dedicated courts per 100,000 people for 10 comparable Western cities is 3.6, which for Seattle's population of 750,000 would result in  27 courts. The comparable cities are Albuquerque, Boise, Denver, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Portland, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, San Francisco and Tucson. See data
