Crack down harder on repeat violent offenders

Crack down harder on repeat violent offenders
The Issue
I've spent the last eight years in and out of court due to the relentless abuse from my ex-partner, a man with a history of violence stretching back to his teenage years. Now, at 34, he remains a threat not just to me, but to many others. Despite numerous prison sentences, each release only fuels my terror, as he inevitably finds ways to contact me and his other victims through contraband mobile phones. His pattern of behavior is not unique, and it highlights a glaring flaw in our justice system – one that fails those of us most in need of protection: the victims.
Repeatedly witnessing this cycle of abuse and incarceration, I've come to realize that the current consequences for repeat violent offenders are insufficient. These individuals exploit the system's leniency, continuing their reign of terror without fear of real repercussions. It's clear that our laws need to be tightened, our penalties more stringent, and our protective measures for victims strengthened.
We must advocate for stronger enforcement against repeat violent offenders. Introducing stricter penalties, longer sentences, and ensuring that these criminals cannot easily obtain contraband while incarcerated is essential. There should be better resources for monitoring these individuals once they are released, such as enhanced parole systems and stronger restrictions on communication, to prevent them from terrorizing victims further.
In England, according to the Ministry of Justice, nearly half of adults released from custody re-offend within a year, and violent crime remains a significant portion of these statistics. This is unacceptable.
By signing this petition, you are standing up not only for me but for countless others who live in fear of their abusers. Let us call upon lawmakers to prioritize the safety of victims and ensure that justice is truly served by cracking down harder on repeat violent offenders. Please sign to make a change.
