The controversial issue of grouse shooting on Ilkley Moor is heading to public consultation, Bradford council leader David Green has confirmed.
It comes in response to a briefing by campaigners calling for it to be banned. They believe grouse shooting causes damage to the moor including reducing wildlife biodiversity and the degradation of natural habitat.
Ikley Moor is the last municipal moorland in the country where grouse shooting is allowed, with other local authorities, including nearby Sheffield City Council and Peak District National Park Authority, already prohibiting the practice on their upland estates.
Councillor Cath Bacon (Labour, Keighley West), said in an email to campaigners last week: "I am not in favour of grouse shooting or blood sports and if there is a legal way of terminating the contract I am happy to support it."
