Ilkley Labour Party's Candidate and current Parish Councillor Henri Murison has come out in support of ending grouse shooting on Ilkley Moor, ahead of the Local Elections next month.
In a statement to Ban Bloodsports on Ilkley Moor, Henri Murison said:
"As I know you are aware, the council administration is bringing forward a management plan for the Moor to a future meeting of the relevant scrutiny panel.
In my capacity as a Parish Councillor, and if successful in this election as a District Councillor, my view will be the same as it is as a local resident. In terms of particularly degradation of habitat and threat of reduced biodiversity I do believe a strong case has been made that shooting on the moor should come to an end.
I plan to use the opportunity the council has rightly given the public of a route to influence the management of the Moor to secure this outcome. As is often the case, the group and you as individuals have led the public debate on this issue. Those of us elected to represent you and the wider community should both support your efforts, and use our position of community leadership to share your arguments with the wider public to attract even wider support."
