Ensure continued funding to Latin American Women's Aid Refuge at appropriate levels.

The Issue

Latin America Women’s Aid (LAWA) has been efficiently running a unique refuge for more than 27 years, providing lifesaving space and new opportunities for women and children who otherwise will have no place to go.

These women not only suffer violence in their own homes but also discrimination when accessing services. They face extreme hardship to get their voices heard as most of them don’t speak English and don’t know the legal system.

LAWA’s Refuge has received high quality performance assessments from Islington Council for consecutive years. Despite this LAWA’s funding will be cut off and told that the women it serves will be directed to other organisations that do not have experience of working with black and ethnic minorities’ (BME) women.
