PROTEST - WALLASEY TOWN HALL - MONDAY 15TH JULY 4PM
On 24th June the Council's Business and Overview and Scrutiny Committee voted unanimously to recommend to the Cabinet that the Council DO NOT fund the Hoylake Golf Resort to the tune of £26million. This is great news and a big step in the right direction but it does not yet mean that the golf resort has been stopped for good, only that the Cabinet may vote to withdraw funding for the private Developers. The Cabinet are to meet on 8th July (in private) to consider the recommendation of the Scrutiny Committee.
On Monday 15th July there is to be an Extraordinary Council Meeting to discuss the future of the Hoylake Golf Resort. At the same meeting Councillors will be voting on a motion to declare a Climate Change Emergency.
It is totally incompatible for the Council to declare a Climate Change Emergency if they continue with plans to build a Golf Resort on Green Belt (and Flood Plain) and continue with proposed housebuilding on Green Belt sites across Wirral.
At the last Extraordinary Council Meeting about the Golf Resort, on 25th February, hundreds protested outside the Town Hall. At that meeting the motion to stop the golf resort was lost by just one vote! Since then there has been a change in the makeup of the Council with no one party in overall control.
We urge everyone who is concerned about climate change and / or wants to save the Green Belt to lobby Councillors as they arrive for the meeting from 4pm onwards.
Please bring your friends family and neighbours. Bring your children - as it is their future that we are fighting for. Bring your banners, your drums and whistles and let the Councillors know that they need to do the right thing. Not only do they need to Declare a Climate Emergency but they need to ACT NOW to Stop the Golf Resort and save our precious Green Belt
Please email all the Councillors in advance of these meetings and ask them to do the right thing for the Climate, to do everything they can to stop the golf resort and to save our precious Green Belt.
