Dear Supporters
You may have seen lots of recent (pre-election) articles in the local press and social media reassuring the residents of the Wirral that the Council's Local Plan proposals focus on regenerating Brownfield sites, leaving our precious Green Belt safe.
However, a recent decision in Kent has highlighted just what we are up against and the dangers of complacency...
The Secretary for Housing (Robert Jenrick MP) has agreed with the Local Planning Inspector to uphold an appeal to build 595 homes OUTSIDE OF THE LOCAL PLAN in Sittingbourne, Kent
"Developers will feel emboldened. Quinn Estates is already challenging the Coalition Council's review of the Local Plan because it excludes the massive development which they propose in the Highsted Valley."
"This decision, if it is allowed to stand, effectively means every Local Plan in the country is now open season for developers to twist and exploit."
Developers have recently been surveying fields right across the Wirral in advance of Wirral's Local Plan Examination. They are hoping to "twist and exploit" our Council's Local Plan and to persuade the Local Plan Inspector that Green Belt on the Wirral should be released.
This is why it is essential that the Wirral Green Space Alliance is also able to have expert Legal and Planning representation at the Local Plan Public Examination so that we can challenge the Developpers expensive Barristers and Planning Teams who will be arguing that the Brownfield sites are not viable and the Green Belt must be released.
Please donate to our Legal Fighting Fund, please donate as little or as much as you can afford. Every single donation will go to helping to preserve Wirral's beautiful Green Spaces.
