Happy Christmas to all our Supporters,
Here's a worthwhile and hopefully lasting Christmas present that you can give - help to Save Wirral's Green Belt by donating any sum, small or large, to the Wirral Green Space Alliance (WGSA) 'Just Giving' webpage via the link below:
https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/savewirralsgreenbelt
A group of hardworking volunteers within WGSA, comprising over 20 Community, Environmental and Conservation organisations plus local statisticians and demographers, have been trying to alter the direction and composition of Wirral's emerging Local Plan and to Save Wirral's Green Belt from unnecessary Release and Development.
WGSA has had some notable success, and the Council has made significant changes. BUT Wirral's Green Belt is STILL very much AT RISK !! The Council has admitted that its previous Policy WAS to Release Green Belt for new Housing, mainly larger properties, for the Council Tax money which would flow into their coffers. Now we're told they want (as WGSA has long argued is the real need) a Local Plan centred on Regeneration of the run-down and deprived areas and NOT Green Belt. BUT the Draft Plan, they say, WILL STILL include Options with Release of Green Belt !!
The Council is still holding to their 12,000+ new homes figure when their own Consultants, plus Liverpool and Manchester Universities and WGSA expert statisticians and demographers have all agreed that the 'Requirement' is around HALF of that figure at most.
Why does it matter? Because at 12,000+, the developers and their expensive legal representatives, will have a much easier task to show weakness in any Council option NOT including large areas of beautiful Green Belt.
We are NOT saying that this is the Council's hidden agenda but it IS the likely outcome of this flawed approach by them. So, please help contribute to our legal fees so we can fight for all our precious Green Belt.
