Dear Supporters,

We know that the Council are undertaking a review of the management of the council owned municipal courses as, due to the decline in golf, it is no longer viable for the Council to manage the courses. Despite the decline in golf and the fact that municipal courses are no longer financially viable, the Council are still proposing to build a new golf resort and a new municipal course in Hoylake. The Council are undertaking a review and  plan to "handover" the management of Arrowe Park and the Warren Municipal Courses to be managed by private companies. So, what will become of Brackenwood Golf Course? Brackenwood is not currently part of the municipal golf course review because it is currently included in an "Open Space Review".

However, Brackenwood Golf Course has been identified as a potential site for housing as part of the Development Options Review which has identified sites in the Green Belt suitable for release for development. (sites SP038 and SP039).

At the recent Environment Overview and Scrutiny Committee Call - In meeting regarding the Local Plan (7th Feb), Councillor Leslie Rennie asked Councillor George Davies (Cabinet Member for Housing) "can you tell me what you know about the future of Brackenwood Golf Course, in plain and simple language that residents can understand?".

Unfortunately, his answer wasn't particularly reassuring.

Listen to his answer from 29:30 mins -

https://wirral.public-i.tv/…/por…/webcast_interactive/400796

we are still scratching our heads trying to understand what George Davies actually said but his answer was:

" ...erm......(pause).....yeah well its difficult in terms of, of, of, the local plan erm...the local plan is is part and parcel of...I'm absolutely certain Christina, myself, the the ward Councillors have all had meetings over that, and it the local plan, don't lets confuse things with the local plan with..erm..what is happening outside the local plan... that, that, doesn't need to be deflected here at this meeting cos this is a call in..the two things that which actually mentioned before it is totally separate and away from what we are talking about here."

So, with the Council planning to build a luxury housing estate on Green Belt land in Hoylake, (to enable a new golf resort for a declining sport and a new municipal course in Hoylake, even though other municipal courses are no longer viable), it all makes us wonder if the Council are also planning to build houses on Brackenwood.

The Hoylake Golf Resort and luxury housing estate will set a very dangerous precedent for building on Green Belt in the Wirral, particularly council owned green belt!

There is to be a full Council meeting on 25th February at 6pm to discuss the Hoylake Golf Resort. Please write to your Councillors and let them know what you think (copy and paste their email addresses below). We also urge you attend the Council meeting and join the protest to Stop the Hoylake Golf Resort  - outside Wallasey Town Hall at 5pm on Monday 25th February.

Save the Green Belt - once it's gone it's gone forever!

Thank you for your support
