Dear Supporters,

Just two days after a Wirral Globe article, in which the Chief Executive of Celtic Manor tried to convince people why it is a good idea for the Council to spend £17million on roads for the Hoylake Golf resort and lend the Developer £26million to help them build a luxury housing estate on the Green Belt - we now have another Globe article in which the the Council try to convince people that they are doing everything they can to protect the Green Belt!!! - You couldn't make this stuff up!

It is totally misleading for the Council to say "the Government are telling us to aim for the higher target. They're refusing to allow us – or any other local authority in the same situation – to lower the projections. This means we must continue to plan for 12,000 new homes over the next 15 years."

In their Consultation Paper, the Government clarifies why the most recent ONS projections should not be used, in the short term. They state: "Local Housing Need does NOT represent a MANDATORY target - it is simply a starting point for planning, and LOCAL AUTHORITIES MAY EITHER CHOSE OR PLAN in excess of this OR CONCLUDE that that they are NOT ABLE TO MEET ALL HOUSING NEED.....due to constraints such as protected designations and Green Belt"

"Local Planning authorities may decide that exceptional circumstances justify the use of an alternative method (for calculating their housing need, but they will need to identify these reasons...."
