So why were Deciduous Plane trees planted in heavy traffic areas instead of the obvious Evergreen trees that filter pollution all year round. Well way back in the 1850s around the time when Wyatt Earp was born the roads were not pathed in Sydney Metro so they planted deciduous trees so in the winter they drop their leaves and allow sun through to dry the mud and they have continued to plant Deciduous trees in heavy traffic areas even though since the 1920’s Sydney Metro has asphalt in the heavy traffic areas.
