KED is DEAD!

A glorious victory for Sudbury and its urban, sustainable, prosperous future!!!!
 
Sudbury City Council has actually and for real shut down a looney plan to build a new civic arena on the periphery of town right next to the very active municipal landfill.  

Thank you to everyone who signed the petition and argued and opined in person and online along with those who lead appeals, reviews and legal challenges, who picketed, persnicketted and refused to be intimidated by the patronizing parties in power and the persuasive parasites pulling their strings.
 
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

The many messages of hope and support for Sudbury and its historic city centre expressed here on the STOP THE KED online petition inspired others to combat the flagging, relentlessly divisive KED propaganda.   Patrick Crowe, Keith Clarkson, Hazel Ecclestone and our fearless Arthur Peach have all worked relentlessly on this issue for the past year always legally and at our own expense.   Hazel and her family have invested over $3000 in a fight for Freedom of Information that has blown the top of the stinking conflicts of interest and highly paid civil servants acting like entitled pashas – outraged that the public would have any say in the management of their own city while actually influencing elected officials to do their bidding.
 
Unfortunately, it was neither good sense nor enlightened urban planning nor good ethics that forced the Sudbury City Council to KILL THE KED but rather spiralling costs due to inflation from the Covid Pandemic and the Russian War of Aggression (Slava Ukraini!!!!) that brought down this ill-conceived enterprise. 
 
While declaring victory in this battle, the war is not yet won.   Our petition calls for the only sensible solution - a Renovated Downtown Arena so WE WILL KEEP THE STOP THE KED PETITION OPEN until this basic no-brainer is reality.
 
Throughout this struggle, we maintain there are certain inalienable truths.
·      Eating people is wrong! 
·      Every person needs a home.
·      Water must be clean and safe to drink.
·      Urban sprawl in the age of a GLOBAL CLIMATE EMERGENCY caused by the burning of fossil fuels (like gasoline, gas, oil and coal) is bad.    We must get our heads out of the sand and become part of the solution instead of being the actual problem confronting the world today.
·      The greenest building is a renovation of one that already exists!
·      Common public amenities must be located in the city centre where most people across the urban region can most easily access them.
·      Cities need efficient urban transit for everyone.
·      Corruption and malfeasance in government must be exposed and thwarted.  
·      Democracy is under attack around the world and at home here too.    
 
And there are more battles to be fought and won. 
·      A plan to build a needless new library and arts centre at enormous cost during pandemic pricing must be shut down.  
·      Then Sudbury needs to elect a functional City Council united by a vision for a strong urban sustainable city not an unimaginative, suburban sprawling conurbation doomed to fail when the gas runs out.

With this victory, Patrick Crowe is proposing a new petition entirely unrelated to the current petition and its organizers.
 
THE SUDBURY REGIONAL HOSPITAL IS IN DANGER
Laurentian University has been shattered in a financial scandal caused by poor governance and irresponsible administration.  We all know that a key player in its demise is currently in a position of senior management in the regional hospital and this critical public service is therefore in danger of suffering a similar fate.
 
There need to be consequences for those who either through incompetence or arrogance or whatever reason, fail in their duty to manage public resources responsibly.
