I am a resident of south-east London who recently received an unjust speeding ticket. I was driving on the A20 in Sidcup, following what I believed to be the legal speed limit as indicated by a sign that allowed motorists to travel up to 50mph. However, unbeknownst to me and many other drivers, the actual speed limit was set at 40mph. This discrepancy between signage and enforcement is not just misleading but also unfair for law-abiding citizens who rely on these signs for accurate information.

This issue goes beyond my personal experience. It affects all motorists using this stretch of road and potentially contributes to an increased number of unwarranted speeding tickets in our community. According to data from Department for Transport (DfT), incorrect or misleading road signs can lead to unnecessary confusion among drivers and may even contribute towards accidents.

We urge TfL- responsible for maintaining these signs - to correct this error promptly and cancel any fines issued up to the moment of corrections of signage. We ask them not only for clarity but also for fairness in enforcing traffic laws.
