We are now actively engaging in outreach at various amateur radio and technical venues - club meetings and swap meets. We've met several amateur radio operators this past week who are glad to see we're pursuing this, so it's clear our message is getting out. Thanks to you, the bill's author and his staff are WELL aware of how serious we consider this issue! Ham radio is great means to communicate, but sometimes a simple phone call really counts. Our petitions are only the beginning. We will need the ongoing support of California voters to see this through to a more appropriate law. As we meet more people we are also collecting live signatures specific to each State Assembly district in order to have voters petition their respective Assemblymember for support if not asked to take on sponsorship of an amendment or new bill. Live signatures as well as ones we extract from this on-line petition will continue to be significant in moving this forward into and through the State Assembly and the State Senate. So far in this electronic petition we found 42 voters from CA Assembly District 20, which is sufficient to submit the first petition to the bill's author. Additional petitions will be submitted via other Districts as appropriate. The plea and goal is to get appropriate new legislation in place - either as part of another bill in progress, a "spot bill", or based on an "urgency clause." The latter can be quicker but requires MUCH more support for a necessary 2/3 majority in the Assembly and Senate. We'll continue to move forward, and need you with us all the way, until there is clearly no law or loophole with unintended consequences or risk of citation of the public for two-way radio use.
