We have it on good authority, REALLY good authority, what it will take to make this right. A lot simpler and less dramatic than such campaigns start with. We didn't mean to create click-bait sensationalism, but the issue is getting positive attention. We have been presented a very specific and easily fulfilled 'ask' of how/why "two-way radio use" is a non-issue as far as general, valid public safety. It has NOTHING to do with ARES/RACES, etc. but simply the action/behavior/differences of operation that set what "we do" versus the 'average' cell/smart-device/known-risk consumer originally targeted with this current revision and law. We know the 1-2 key questions/challenges legislature and their public-safety advisory/lobby group are concerned about: 1. What is it about non-9-1-1-level 2-way radio operation is or is not a risk to general public safety? 2. How is that activity/behavior more or less distracting than "cellular technology"? 3. Absent ANY negative statistics for some 70-years of "two-way radio" operation, actually NO data collected about this - can/will any law enforcement agency step up to favorable 'testimony' that they do NOT perceive or anticipate that past, current or future "two-way radio" use presents a known risk in their jurisdictions/communities? THIS is a KEY point in progress, the outreach, the plan. We know what the answer/solution is - we just need substantial backing for it. This is where YOU, the user-base, become ESSENTIAL in this! WE ALL NEED the 'endorsement' of any/all available/willing public safety professionals to indicate that in their experience, etc. they do NOT perceive, anticipate, have evidence of, ANY two-way radio use causing harm or being a threat to general public safety. If you value your mobile radio operations, this is when and how you can help! THIS is 'gold' for us all. To that, we CAN and MUST succeed... Step 1: Awareness and get a "seat at the table." DONE! Step 2A: Help re-write the legislation - we're working on that. We know what the "bad words" are and what the "good words" should be. Step 2B: Get validation/endorsement from many public safety entities - that's our/YOUR job to work on. Step 3: Get the "good words" into a revision and then encourage support from 100+ local Assembly representatives. Only YOU can do that among YOUR local reps. If this means anything to you, certainly you can afford an email or phone call of encouragement once we get there. Step 4: This passes and we're 'good' for a LONG time. We're at Step 2. We now know what we need to prevail/win. We are ALL invested to get to Steps 3 and 4. Meanwhile, the current petition content will be revised to reflect what we are told will WIN, and the above steps to make it so. I'd say we've won, figuratively, but there is a little bit more to do literally to close the deal. If this truly IS important... help us make it reality. Thank you!
