After 2 years of campaigning for better planning decisions, rules and procedures at Cornwall Council, as well as to highlight obvious deficiencies and failures, we have now reached close to 10,000 signatures on this petition.

This also includes 73,300 Views and 8,790 Shares.

Whilst slightly underwhelming, given Cornwall’s population is fast approaching 550,000 residents, it must be remembered that not everyone has access to a computer, let alone a change.org account. Add this to the army of kids who probably can’t see the damage being done (as it’s all they’ve known) and the smaller army of Council workers who’ve been warned off, and we’re doing alright in getting our message across to everyone out there that’s concerned about the systematic dismantling of a once beautiful Duchy; and throwing in for good measure:

More unaffordable and unsustainable, low-quality, mass timber-frame new builds on grade A agricultural land and old growth woods.
Diminishing Local Authority housing stock.
Nine Cornish areas of low-quality air (AQMAs) due to high levels of Nitrogen Dioxide.
Treliske Hospital on constant 24-hour black alert with huge queues at A&E and for operations.
Surgeries closing their doors to new patients. as full-up. Told by NHS and Cornwall Council to expect thousands more anyway and to suck it up.
Schools closed to new pupils.
Roads – especially back roads – dangerously full, with incidents of road rage growing.
Near-empty ghost villages in our once thriving fishing communities.
More zero-hour and low paid seasonal and part-time jobs replacing well paid full-time ones.
Huge council debt estimated at £2 billion, requiring £1.3m/week interest repayments.
All this necessitating back to back sharp Council Tax increases.
More new towns and mass estates planned in new wave of council-backed urbanisation.
Denatl surgeries few and far between and no spaces left for NHS patients.
AONBs regularly being ignored and proper horror shows being thrown up all over them.

Cornwall Council working for One and All... NOT!

And the councillors overseeing the planning officers’ and developers’ “good work”?

Meanwhile, back in the real Cornish world, one resident recently said:
“Planning for another 50 houses goonhavern in pipeline back of last lot that got built. Will soon be joined to Perran and Newquay.”

And in St. Ives (see photo):
“I walked past this yesterday and it was boarded up..
It is at the top of Barnoon Hill..
The people who owned it did the same to the next house up, several years ago and put a massive electric roller door in the gap. They are both holiday lets..
This is a beautiful old house and yet again, destruction takes place for tourists’ convenience..
This terrace of 14 houses only has 4 houses occupied year round..
I am beginning to hate living in St. Ives, to watch it being eaten away as development spreads like a cancer”
