Chaos in Redruth, Truro and other towns all set to get worse, much worse...

Dear Supporters, Four issues below: 1- Truro (south):- This EVENING at 6pm, there is a SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING at Truro City Council chamber - open to the PUBLIC - to receive a presentation from the developers of Truro Football Club, Treyew Road, to develop a large retail park which is to include a Lidl store. Everybody is welcome. There should be the plans from Highways, Environment and foul drainage (SWW). So please come along. Sorry for late notice. 2. Redruth:- Redruth, 30 September 2017 To: The Manager, CORMAC Cornwall Council Highways Cllr Geoff Brown - Cornwall Council Portfolio Holder for Transport Road Traffic Issues - Redruth This is but one complaint I was confronted with during Saturday 30 September, 2017: "You're a councillor sort it out just like the rest of the shit in the area". "CHAOS IN CHAPEL STREET & MANOR SURGERY, REDRUTH TODAY I have been approached by several people with complaints about the chaos in Chapel Street and Manor Surgery today. Today was the first day of 'flu jabs' at Manor Surgery at Forth Noweth. I was one of those in the queue in Forth Noweth which tailed out into Chapel Street and witnessed a 'shunt' collision as cars tried to access the surgery. Sadly, the surgery ran out of flu vaccines by 11:45, one and a quarter hours short of the final time advertised to patients. This caused mayhem as dozens of patients were turned away, including myself. I have spoken to one of the practice staff about this. The next 'flu jab' day is set for SATURDAY 14th OCTOBER, 2017 from 08:30 to 13:00. I have always had concerns about the numbers of people being forced to use just two surgeries as opposed to three when we had Cardrew open. The NHS assured us that the Barncoose MIU would take up the slack and then practice managers from both surgeries went public in the West Briton stating they could cope. I leave you to draw your own conclusions but I am constantly calling for better health services for our community along with my colleagues. Our doctors, nurses and other health staff do a magnificent job but we need more such professionals in order to deal with a growing number of residents. The problem this morning was further compounded by defective traffic lights further along Chapel Street at its Plain an Gwarry junction and resultant traffic chaos ensued. I stepped out of my car and sorted this out, directing traffic and calming down aggressive motorists, whilst phoning Cornwall Council's emergency out of hours service. Since that time, I have written to appropriate people in order to flag these issues. I do understand that some feel so annoyed as to use bad language. I am not paid nor do I draw expenses for what I do for the community. My fellow colleagues are the same. Nevertheless, I am as frustrated and annoyed as everyone else and will continue to do my very best to sort these matters out in cooperation with others." The Redruth inner bypass development, not widely admired, is causing much chaos and confusion in the community. This is made worse by other road works occurring at the same time. Quite simply, road works on major routes need to be staggered. I write drawing this whole sorry issue to your attention. Yours faithfully Cllr (Ind) Mike Chappell Redruth Town Council 3- Truro (northeast):- HARMONY INDEED? And a mere £6 MILLION overspend on construction so nothing too serious. In his book, Harmony, the Duke of Cornwall sets out his anxieties about the future of the global environment, calls for investment and respect for rural life, farmers and natural resources. It is incredible, to the point of hypocrisy, for him to passively allow his Duchy Estate to set an example to those others whom he so wishes to influence, by allowing the development of 55 acres of Grade 2 and 3a land (our best) and, thereby, taken out of production, impoverishing one of his best dairy farms, developing in an Area of Great Landscape Value, increasing pollutive risk to the heavily protected River Fal and undermining the future viability of a successful Cornish market town. And all to accommodate a park and ride scheme which is too close to Truro, a supermarket which should be in the town centre, at least 100 houses, most of which will be very expensive and a few will be ‘affordable’ (which to most people in housing need in Cornwall means unobtainable!), encouraging ‘urban sprawl’, a recycling centre which would be best placed on the same site at Newham as the materials sorting facility (MURF). Supermarket traffic will cancel the benefit of the car park (which is now only part-used anyway!), and the whole wasteful business will reduce both the food supply, the landscape and the future of the farmland between Tresillian and the railway line. The Duke will, one day, be King. I’d prefer a King who speaks truth and acts according to his own wisdom – saying one thing and doing the opposite begs a profound question which I would prefer not to feel I have to ask. Bert Biscoe 4- This petition has been put together by a small number of residents from very different ages, backgrounds and views, but with a common view that Cornwall is being irreparably damaged by the current planning team at Cornwall Council. We originate from and live in: Carnon Downs Chacewater Crofthandy Falmouth Gweek Liskeard Redruth Sancreed St. Austell Truro We are doing this on behalf of our kids, your kids and all Cornish residents who have an interest in making Cornwall a good and decent place to live and work, not a gold mine for national developers to plunder. We highly value your support, and hope that together we can force a change of planning culture at the council, as well as inject some reality into wayward councillors. Thank you for sharing that vision.
