There has been a robust discussion in the Coochie Community Chat group on Facebook. Many good ideas have been floated.
People are taking initiative to email Redland City Council at rcc@redland.qld.gov.au - and adding their concerns and ideas to the mix. We can also email the local councillor, Lance Hewlett at lance.hewlett@redland.qld.gov.au or call/text him on 0421 880 731
The more that reach out, the more RCC will become aware that we are unhappy with the way we're being treated by them.
Silence is not an option! Please speak up! If you've signed the petition, thank you. If you've signed the petition and shared it with your friends, double-thank you! If you've signed the petition, shared it with your friends and emailed/called RCC with your concerns and ideas, you're a SUPERSTAR! Thank you!
I spoke with both Lance and the compliance office yesterday. Neither were particularly helpful in answering my questions, which were:
1. What was the exact decision making process that RCC went through to come to the decision to remove the kayaks from Main Beach and
2. Why was there no consultation done with the community?
If you get a chance, do read through the comments here, there are some very good points made and it's very clear Coochiemudlians feel quite strongly about this.
