Today, we had a meeting with the county. A guard rail was not even entertained, and excuses were given that it might cause "more damage" to the offenders. As for the blocks that are currently in front of the property that disable the vehicles that hit them if ran over, the county stated that they are to be moved off the curb line so they can put reflector posts, similar to the one that got absolutely obliterated, at an interval similar to the current block spacing of 3 feet.
Concrete blocks are the current method used to disable vehicles that impact the property. They are effective in their intended purpose and the county wants to replace them with a subpar solution that will not disable vehicles, permitting them to escape the scene. Since they are durable, they can be reused until they break. However, they are only a temporary solution that the homeowners devised until the county decides to put a guardrail. Since they are a temporary solution, a consequence is that they do not stop cars from jumping the curb, they just prevent them from fleeing.
The proposed reflector posts will not stop a speeding automobile and will only permit the perpetrator to drive away without vehicle-stopping damage, leading to law enforcement being unable to track down and punish the offender. The picture provided shows what happens when a car hits the type of posts the county wants to install.
Pedestrians and children will continue to be at risk with these subpar county-proposed solutions and they once again mentioned that "if something happens, only then will they explore other options."
