Convince Monmouth County to put a guardrail in front of 478 Cliffwood Avenue
The Issue
This petition is calling for Monmouth County to install a guard rail in front of the property located at 478 Cliffwood Avenue. The reasoning for this petition is that there are crashes involving drunk drivers, moronic teenagers with no license/permit driving unsupervised, and other incompetent motorists who constantly plough into the property at that address. This has been a persistent problem for over a decade and the county has done nothing, especially since the road where the incidents occur is a county-owned road located between two schools so there are a large number of children who walk on the sidewalk in front of the property several times a day and often during periods of elevated traffic conditions. The current conditions are unsafe and children are put in danger by the constant high-speed incidents where vehicles jump the curb when disregarding the stop sign at Matawan Avenue and end up on the sidewalk, where there already have been near-hits with pedestrians.
There are two schools in extremely close proximity and both schools have children that cross in front of the property regularly.

A guardrail could put an end to incidents like this. A pedestrian was crossing only around a minute before impact.

Weeks later, a driver under the influence of alcohol would do the same and crash into a telephone pole. Both incidents occurred at high rates of speed.

Here's an incident from a few years ago again with a car jumping the curb and ending up on the sidewalk. These incidents occur basically every year and will not stop until measures are put in place to stop vehicles from jumping the curb.

As for contacting the county, that has been done before. The county refuses to cooperate and is incredibly reactive and not proactive on the matter. They stipulate that someone has to be killed in a collision before the idea of a guardrail can even be entertained. It seems that the cost of a guardrail is an innocent victim's life and that shouldn't be the case when handling matters about public safety. Why require someone to get killed to take action when there are incidents happening regularly? The fact people have been jumping the curb and ploughing into the property there, posing a danger to pedestrians. It is absolutely egregious that the county has done absolutely nothing to improve the safety of the intersection of Matawan Avenue and Cliffwood Avenue.
