Hi Everyone!
I appreciate your patience since our last update. The spring and summer months are particularly busy for everyone, especially NYC Parks.
I wanted to share a few updates with all of you!
- Our petition has garnered nearly 1,300 signatures to date! THANK YOU!
- Following our Earth Day Clean-Up, we've had meetings with both the Department of Transportation (DOT) and NYC Parks, with the full support of both Commissioners for McCoy’s Dog Run.
- On June 10th, a representative from NYC Parks conducted a site visit to explore the feasibility of establishing a temporary dog run within Pulaski Park while we continue to pursue a permanent solution.
**Summary of Findings:**
Unfortunately, the locations considered for a potential dog run within the park do not meet the necessary criteria. Two proposed spots are directly adjacent to a playground, rendering them unsuitable, while the other two are heavily covered with trees and bushes, requiring significant removal to create a functional dog run.
Regarding the proposed vacant lot currently managed by DOT, several factors must be considered. In addition to a feasibility study, this lot would require an ADA-compliant ramp, which could be costly. An alternative could be to share the existing ramp used by DOT to access the area beneath the overpass. This would necessitate a joint contract, and the ramp would need to comply with ADA guidelines.
Another DOT site was suggested that may be less costly than the vacant lot; however, we need to confirm its availability and ensure that no other projects are designated for this area.
In the meantime, we encourage everyone to continue advocating for McCoy's Dog Run by engaging with the community board, elected officials, and one another. The stronger our coalition becomes, the closer we will be to making a dog run a reality.
Thank you for your continued support.
