The Issue

Pickleball has rapidly grown in popularity across the country, including right here in Norfolk, Virginia. It is a sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong, attracting people of all ages and skill levels. The community around pickleball is vibrant, fostering social interactions and promoting a healthy lifestyle for its participants. However, despite its rising popularity, there are limited accessible public pickleball facilities in Norfolk.

Current facilities are often overcrowded, making it difficult for enthusiasts to find available courts and enjoy the game. On the other hand, the outdoor tennis courts at Tarrallton Park are often underutilized, presenting an opportunity for optimization. By converting one of these tennis courts into 2-4 pickleball courts, we can make the most of the available space and better meet the recreational needs of our community.

The benefits of this conversion are multi-faceted. It will not only support the growing interest in pickleball but also alleviate the overcrowding at existing venues. Additionally, it will support local health and wellness goals by providing more people with the opportunity to engage in physical activity.

We're asking the Norfolk Parks and Recreation Department to take this step for the residents of our city who are eager to embrace and engage in this growing sport. Let's utilize community resources wisely and make Tarrallton Park a more inclusive and active recreational area.

By signing this petition, you are supporting a cause that aims to enhance recreational infrastructure in Norfolk. Let's rally together to show our collective desire for more outdoor pickleball facilities and bring this positive change to Tarrallton Park!
