The Issue

Being from Louisiana, I frequently pass by Buddy Guy's childhood home on my way to Marksville. This house isn't just another old structure; it's a national registered place that stands as a testament to the roots of blues music in the South. However, its current state is heartbreaking. Trees have taken over, and the house seems just a storm away from being completely lost to time.

Instead of allowing this historic site to remain this way and risk its potential demolition, I propose transforming Buddy Guy's childhood home into a museum either dedicated to Buddy Guy himself, as one of blues music's greatest icons, or to the broader history of blues in the South. Blues music, born out of struggle and deep emotional expression, holds an indelible place in American culture. What better way to honor this legacy than by preserving and celebrating one of its landmark birthplaces?

This museum could become a vibrant cultural attraction, drawing music lovers and tourists, revitalizing the area, and educating new generations about the roots and evolution of blues music. By restoring and repurposing this house, we would not only preserve a crucial part of our musical heritage but also give back to the community, creating a center for cultural engagement and education.

With the success of the movie, SINNERS…The time for action is now.  Let us not lose another piece of our cultural history to neglect. With your support, we can rally the necessary resources and attention to make this vision a reality.

Join me in this important cause. Let's work together to honor Buddy Guy’s legacy and ensure that his childhood home stands as a beacon of the soulful sounds that have shaped so much of our music today. Sign this petition and help transform Buddy Guy's childhood home into a cherished blues museum for all to enjoy.
