Consult the community on the future of Clissold Park cafe

Consult the community on the future of Clissold Park cafe
The Issue
Clissold House Cafe
We call on Hackney Council to urgently carry out a public consultation on future provision of a cafe in Clissold Park. The consultation should look at how the next catering operation is provided and ensure that what is planned is sustainable, affordable and meets the needs of all residents and communities.
The main Cafe in Clissold Park closed suddenly in March 2024 when the previous provider Deep Beat Entertainment went into administration. The cafe closure through the whole summer has left a big hole for many of the communities using our beautiful park.
We want the planning for future cafe provision to include feedback from all communities and sectors who would use the cafe ; recognition of the need for good employment practises including apprenticeships, and commitment to waste reduction including the use of re-suable crockery and deposit cups schemes.
We understand there are affordability constraints on both the Council and the hospitality sector, but affordability for customers and sustainability must have equal weight. Good Ideas and discussion are being generated in the community.
Everyone is keen to see a the restoration of a cafe in the park, but this must be following meaningful consultation, even if short.
