Today I took a ride. From Caddington to St Albans via Hatfield. The contrast between what neighbouring councils in St Albans and Welwyn Hatfield do for their residents and what Central Beds Council do for us is stark!
Caddington Woods to Caddington and slip end offers residents two options for alternative and leisure travel: a road that threatens death and injury to anybody taking non-motorised transport. Or a series of thin, tiny and unmaintained strips of soil that cannot be walked or ridden on most of the year.
In contrast as I left Luton on the lea valley walk way I was treated to well over 20 miles worth of traffic free greenway. With very high quality surfacing that would sustain travel for most of the year. I came across happy active people of all ages. Walking, jogging, cycling and even a couple of adults rollerblading.
It is unacceptable that you the supporters of this petition are treated with such contempt, such neglect. The latest from the executive member for sustainability says:
‘the good thing is that the council is working on this route, albeit slowly enough to cause frustration’.
9 years ago the plans for our path were published! This dither, this lack of a robust response and tactic to work through the obstacles has passed any point of reasonable frustration. The date for objections to the proposals has expired. The latest path order must be implemented. Your support and the support of any others will send a clear message to those who are not serious about bringing this essential community and environmental infrastructure to completion now!
