Recognizing the growing popularity of pickleball as a sport, this petition calls for the installation of pickleball courts at Harmon Park. Located near Jefferson Elementary School, which is already equipped with a playground, the park provides a strategic location for the additional sporting facility.  Recently the tennis courts at this location were removed due to safety risks. The City of Des Moines is currently trying to determine what should be done with this location. Pickleball, a paddleball sport combining elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis, has seen a surge in popularity over the last decade. The introduction of pickleball courts would not only serve the current enthusiasts but also encourage the students of Jefferson School to diversify their sports participation.
