Construct Line 5 Eglinton as a Rapid Transit Line, Not Light Rail

The Issue

I initiate this petition following concerns for a friend of mine, whose relative resides in Toronto, ON, Canada. He's filled with anticipation for the subway expansion project, rightfully so as it's expected to alleviate transport woes faced by the citizens of Toronto. I firmly believe, however, that Line 5 Eglinton should be constructed as a rapid transit line, as opposed to its current planning as a light rail.

To establish a more efficient infrastructure, it's logical that Line 5 Eglinton should be a rapid transit line. Given that this line is set to be primarily underground and entirely grade-separated, this construction decision holds considerable significance. Rapid transit lines are efficient, faster, and decrease travel times significantly as compared to light rails.

On the other hand, the Line 6 Finch West, which will be primarily above ground and at-grade, makes sense to be a light rail line due to its geographical and structural features. By choosing the right construction method respective to the characteristics of each line, we can help to build a more reliable and efficient transit system for the people of Toronto.

Therefore, by promoting Line 5 Eglinton to become a rapid transit line, we are ensuring optimized movement for the citizens whilst also accommodating for the population growth and urban development of Toronto. This will also be a wonderful testament to civic planning - showing that the choices made are in the best interest of citizens, improving their daily commutes, and making their lives a bit easier.

Please sign this advocacy. Let's work together to make Line 5 Eglinton a model of efficient, rapid transit infrastructure! Stand with us in ensuring a reliable transport future for Toronto.
