Construct Affordable Housing on Landfill Site Instead of Horse Racing Facility

The Issue

For my fellow residents and me, this saga is nothing less than personal. Our lives have been significantly impacted by the proposal of building a horse racing facility on our local landfill site. We are deeply concerned about the negative effects such a project carries with it - increased noise pollution, potential harm to local wildlife, and the strain the complex would put on local infrastructure.

Instead, we urge the local authorities to reconsider and pivot to a project that promises numerous benefits to our community - building affordable housing on this unused land. The lack of affordable housing in our city is a growing concern, with many individuals and families struggling to find suitable, cost-effective homes. This project could be a viable solution to our housing crisis.

According to a recent study by the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University, there is a critical shortage of affordable housing in the United States, with nearly half of tenants spending more than 30% of their income on rent (Harvard University, 2020). Thus, building affordable homes on the landfill site would not only benefit our residents but potentially alleviate this national issue on a local level.

Therefore, we urge the local authorities to stand with us and take this opportunity to meet our growing need for affordable housing, rather than seeking to build a potentially destructive and disruptive horse racing facility.

Please sign this petition and support the change for a more sustainable and inclusive community that benefits the current residents and generations yet to come.
