I often walk at the Bukit Bintang main junction and witness firsthand how pedestrians struggle to navigate the streets. It can be a daunting experience and one that needs immediate address. The current infrastructure does not adequately support pedestrian flow. This has not only led to inefficiencies but poses safety risks as well.

 

 

In 2019, there were 235 pedestrian fatalities in Malaysia, with intersections being identified as one of the most dangerous road environments for pedestrians (World Health Organization). This alarming statistic should prompt us to rethink our current street designs and work towards prioritizing pedestrian safety. By proposing a four-sided pedestrian overpass at Bukit Bintang's main junction we could reduce these risks while improving the city's walkability. 

 

 

These overpasses have been used successfully in various cities in optimizing pedestrian movement and can make a significant difference in Bukit Bintang.
