Consider Balancing games periods and studies in school
The Issue
As a student who spends an extensive amount of time studying, I have come to realize the importance of balancing academic rigor with physical activity. The current schedule only allows for limited games periods, which I find insufficient to alleviate the stress and mental fatigue that accumulate throughout the school day. Many of my peers share this sentiment, and we believe that more opportunities for physical activities could lead to improved academic performance and overall well-being.
Studies have consistently shown that regular physical activity enhances cognitive functions, memory, and concentration, thereby contributing positively to a student’s academic journey. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), children and adolescents should engage in at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day. Unfortunately, most schools fall short of this recommendation, with students receiving far less than the required amount in games periods.
Incorporating more games periods can also substantially benefit our health. With the rising concern over childhood obesity and related health issues, the need for sufficient daily exercise cannot be overstated. By including additional games periods in the curriculum, schools can foster a healthier lifestyle among students, encouraging them to stay active while developing important social and teamwork skills.
We propose a realistic and practical solution: increasing the frequency of games periods to at least four times a week. This increase will ensure that students not only meet the minimum exercise requirements but also have a chance to unwind and refresh their minds. We believe that this change will not only boost student morale but also enhance their learning capabilities.
In our school we have to balance studying and fun periods. In my school we only get 2 games periods a week for 30 minutes each which get removed or taken by teachers for studying most of the time. As we have learnt physical activity is very important for our health and we have the right to be provided it more frequently and urge the teachers not to take our beloved games period
I urge school administrators and policymakers to consider this proposal seriously as a step towards nurturing a healthier, happier, and more productive student community. By doing so, we invest in the future, ensuring that students are both mentally and physically equipped to face the challenges of today and tomorrow.
