The Issue

This impacts everyone in Henry County, GA! Please read ALL BELOW!

Background: Our county uses what is called a FLUM (Future Land Use Map) to determine the future development of our county as a whole. For example; the county can designate commercial/retail/shops to be built in a certain area, they also designate where they want to put high-density residential, where they want to put rural/low-density residential, where they want to put mixed-use, etc. etc. Right now, our county commissioners are in the midst of the final stages of approving the 2043 FLUM Map. This will open the floodgates for letting the developers come in and easily get things approved to build out according to the map...

To give you some comparison, here is the link to our current FLUM map. This is the map the county has currently been using. Click here to view the interactive map where you can zoom in to where we live etc.

Now here is the 2043 FLUM Map our Henry County Commissioners approved on October 30th, 2023. Click to view here.

If you put them side by side, you can see the 2043 FLUM Map several areas are going from Moderate Density to High Density and then the Low Density is now increasing to Medium Density. Rural Agriculture to Low Density Suburban. The land use map even allows/gives way to building over several wetlands/streams throughout our county!! No one is looking out for the wetlands! Here is the map of our wetlands throughout our county: Click here to view the wetland map as of today.

Us citizens have major concerns. If the county approves this map, we're talking much more traffic, less green space, and higher-density housing developments crammed into our already overpopulated surrounding area.

We want to conserve our area and have smart growth, and more green space, and not cram us all in. If you share our similar sentiments, I encourage you to speak up. Please sign this petition and read the flyer attached below for more info and how to get involved.
