Why this petition matters

Started by Chris Coutu

A few years ago I drove a couple of Army Soldiers to lunch. We drove by and waived to an older gentleman in downtown Hartford. After eating we walked outside to dozens of police cars. Shortly after I was informed that that gentleman had been run over and killed by a stolen car that was recklessly driving.

Week after week we hear of local citizens' property being stolen, assaults, and criminal activities. All too often we hear, "They should have locked their door". Why would we ever blame a traumatized victim for the criminals actions?

Over time the violence associated has drastically increased. Recently senior centers were destroyed, a dozen Connecticut citizens have been run over and killed by criminals in stolen cars, and homeowners are being shot at after disrupting at-home vehicle thefts.

Along with the escalating violence there is a consistent trend of repete offenders who have been let off after 5, 10, and over 15 crimes. How do we deter criminals with this open door policy? If anything it leads to addition violence along with less respect for personal property, victim rights and law enforcement.

Enough is enough! It is time for law abiding citizens to take action.

We need to work together and draft the 2021 Connecticut Community Safety Act.
