We are asking for a crosswalk on 12th Street that would connect SCPA and Washington Park. The proposed crosswalk would provide a safe and convenient crossing point for students entering and exiting the school as well as increase pedestrian connectivity within the neighborhood.

Each day, K-6 students use the 12th Street entrance to SCPA for drop-off and pick-up. During those times, the block between Race and Elm becomes very congested with car traffic, creating an unsafe environment for pedestrians.

Families that park on the north side of 12th Street as well as those on foot frequently cross mid-block despite the lack of a crosswalk. Installing a crosswalk at this location would improve safety for SCPA students by creating a unified crossing point as well as increase visibility by restricting cars from parking in the crosswalk zone.

In addition to drop-off and pick-up safety concerns, Washington Park is frequently used by SCPA students both during and after school hours. The proposed crosswalk would line up with a stone gate and path entering Washington Park and better connect the school with the neighborhood.
