I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer! No crosswalk yet, but I have several updates to share.

I’ve included a photo from our volunteer crossing guard effort at the end of the school year. We were also featured on Local12. Check it out!

Wednesday, August 6, several of us spoke at a joint meeting of the City Council Healthy Neighborhoods committee and CPS Board of Education.

"Request for a crosswalk between School for the Creative and Performing Arts and Washington Park

I am writing to ask for support for a new crosswalk mid-block on 12th Street that would connect SCPA and Washington Park.

SCPA students grades K-6 enter and exit the school through a rear gate, located in the middle of the block on 12th Street. Building a crosswalk between this gate and Washington Park would give families much safer access to the opposite side of 12th Street and the park.

Many families park across the street, while others walk through Washington Park or take their kids to the playground on a daily basis.

A new crosswalk would naturally slow down car traffic during school hours and provide a much safer crossing point for everyone who is trying to get across the street.

This request has received support from SCPA principal Michael Owens, the SCPA PTSO and Over-the-Rhine Community Council. There is also an online petition with over 500 signatures.

I would greatly appreciate your support in addressing this issue and helping us get a new crosswalk.
