Despite several months of back and forth with the city's Department of Transportation (DOTE) and CPS administration, including a traffic analysis from the city and a visit from CPS's transportation team, we have been told that a crosswalk is not possible.

DOTE does not want to remove parking spots or redo the street layout to accomodate the crosswalk. They also told us that a crosswalk is not necessary because of the stoplights at each end of the block, which they believe are adequate.

Our team of CPS parents does not agree and will continue advocating to install a crosswalk. 

There are many mid-block crosswalks throughout downtown Cincinnati, including along the streetcar line. We believe the impacts to parking and street design are not significant enough to deny our request, which is focused on creating the safest possible street for our kids.

Our next step is to organize a volunteer crosswalk team on 12th St, beginning this Friday, April 25. 

We have the support of the SCPA PTSO, while CPS has provided vests and stop signs to help with the effort. We are also working with SCPA administration and District 1 police to make sure everyone is on board and safe.

We would love to have your help. Our team of SCPA parents will provide a safe crosswalk experience each Friday at pickup, 3:45-4:30 pm, beginning this Friday, April 25. We plan to do this until the end of the school year.
