For months we've been saying investigations that are tainted by notions of "believe the victim," "start by believing," and "trauma-informed" are certain to produce a biased and unfair investigative report.

Now, the federal Office for Civil Rights (OCR) is investigating a complaint from Northwestern University that alleges lack of due process for the accused student. Specifically, the complaint accuses the University of engaging in the gender-biased practice of ‘always believing the victim.’ The complaint also accuses the University of violating Education Department guidelines for investigations of sexual misconduct, according to an article that appeared in The Daily Northwestern.

The article also reveals, "This isn’t the first time Northwestern has been denounced for alleged flawed investigative procedures. In 2017, Communication Prof. Laura Kipnis penned a book in which she referred to NU’s Title IX process as 'kangaroo courts.'”

Numerous ethics codes require investigators to conduct their work in an impartial, fair, and honest manner. But in their zeal to promote a feminist nirvana, many campus investigators have lost sight of the whole reason for an investigation: To ascertain the truth.

We'll look forward to seeing the results of the OCR probe.
