Dear supporters, Our petition has reached over 30,000 folks who agree that we should no longer tolerate petty attempts by elected officials to halt gun violence research on the federal level. I have some great news to report in regards to this push! In recent weeks, we have seen common sense legislators in Congress listen to our voices and stand up for change. A letter circulated the House and was signed by 110 of the 188 Democrat House members. The letter, which was spearheaded by Congressman David Price (D-NC), calls for an end to, “short-sighted and unnecessary riders that freeze gun violence research.” And just yesterday, Congressman Mike Honda (D-Silicon Valley) introduced a bill which focuses on just what we’re advocating: an investment in gun violence research on the federal level in order to instruct common sense solutions to end this epidemic. His bill poses to reaffirm research authority of the CDC; improve the National Violent Death Reporting System; and ensuring that the gun lobby does not have the authority to interfere with doctor-patient conversation about gun safety in the home. Read the bill here: http://www.scribd.com/doc/288511873/Congressman-Honda-s-Action-to-Stop-Gun-Violence. It’s so important to thank elected officials who are translating our demands into real solutions. Let Congressman Price and Congressman Honda know that you stand behind their efforts to allow the Centers for Disease Control to study gun violence causes, effects, and solutions. Tweet your thanks to Congressman Honda: http://ctt.ec/5Ovdp Tweet your thanks to Congressman Price: http://ctt.ec/4w_Fb Keep sharing the petition and this positive news out of Congress. Awareness and education are key! In peace, Sarah
