Thank you for being one of the more than 25,000 people who have signed my petition asking Congress to stop blocking gun violence research. As you likely know by now, not only do we have broken gun laws at every level in America, but our government is not allowed to fund studies so we can know how to make our communities safer. How are we expected to come up with the most impactful, comprehensive solutions if we cannot study the problem? We are quite literally up against the clock here; if we are going to save lives, then we need to act now. Please send a tweet to Rep. Hal Rogers who chairs the Appropriations Committee which continuously denies gun violence research funding. That's almost 20 years of potential breakthroughs out the window. My generation has grown up with lockdown drills at school and the assumption that whether at the movie theater, church, or just walking down the street, we could be next. That is not what freedom looks like. Let's remind Congress that gun violence is a public health crisis. For any other issue killing 33,000 people in America every year, there is funding allocated for research. We deserve better for our communities. Thank you!
